We snapped this in front of one of the gorgeous Kamas, Utah tourist attractions. This might be my favorite sign in all of America.
Rod shows up on the blog from time to time, usually as a muted supporting character in the “Hilary show.” This is not because he is a much lesser supporting character in the proverbial play of our lives, but just that most of the time he’s busy grinding it out all day at the job so he misses out on my health excursions and other adventures with the prime minister.
We try to make up for lost time on the weekends by taking stupid pictures of each other eating ice cream.
It makes him queasy to think about me gushing publicly about him.
Let me rephrase, I think he likes it when I gush publicly about him as long as it’s not in his presence and he does not have to do anything to reciprocate publicly. (If I ever saw “My wife is so amazing! I love you so much honey!” on Facebook I would know his account had been hacked). So I do my best to keep it cool…because you can only read so many “I love my husband, we are so happy, and he is so amazing” -esque posts before you click “unsubscribe.” (there is a fine line, no?)
He’s a good guy. A great dad. A giant listening ear when I talk “at” him. A best friend. And guess what? Today is his BIRTHDAY! I am totally married to a middle-aged man. (One who has been known to fist-pump at weddings)…
And I love it.
So happy birthday Rod. Thanks for putting up with us two dramatic lunatics. You are everything I could have ever asked for. And now you are 34. And super awesome.
I love you. Publicly. (& privately, too.)

Cute! You managed to walk the fine line of expressing your love, and not making me want to throw up and punch you in the face. You are right there is nothing worse than people expressing their raw emotions on face book "I love my____they are the hottest person ever and the best person in the world, and oh yeah and back in high school they were the most popular …EVER" love those people.
Anyway Happy B-day to Rod, he is a great guy, hope you guys have a fun day!
Happy birthday Rod! (PS: Loved the father/son photo at the "spa." If only John Steinbeck had driven through Kamas in his Travels with Charley…I would love to have read that chapter!)
This post should win a bloggy award for best birthday tribute to a husband without making people want to vomit : ) (or shout, "get a room!") Even though I haven't met the administrator in person, from his ice cream pic I can tell we would be good friends : ) Happy b-day to your man, you guys make a rad couple.
