I saw this movie last night with the family. If you like romantic comedies and you happen to be pregnant, or have had a baby, or ever want to have a baby–you should probably see the film. I’m sure being pregnant made me like the film even more–oh all those precious newborns. I laughed and I cried, several times. And even Rod got a few chuckles in. (Side note: I want whoever is doing whatever they are doing to Jennifer Lopez’s face to work on mine. That woman just gets more and more gorgeous as she ages.)

I was having deja vu while watching the first scene of the film. It opens with a scene with Cameron Diaz dancing in a faux “DWTS” type of show. The movie dance set looked so much like the “Dance Your Ass Off” set and when Ruben and I finished our final dances and after he was announced the winner, I couldn’t go to the show’s wrap party because I was throwing up back stage. At the time I was 9 weeks pregnant and falling apart.

Luckily, I didn’t lose my lunch on the stage. (That’s pretty much where the similarity between Cameron Diaz’s character and myself end, my two pregnancies have been much more like the character Elizabeth Banks plays.) It was also great to see an old college friend, Ryan DiLello, dancing as one of the “finalists” in the film. Ryan and I danced on the same ballroom company in college so it was great to see him in a big studio film. I don’t think any of us who were dancing ballroom 8 years ago at BYU would have guessed how many dancers from Utah would go on to work in TV and film.

Pregnancy Update: 32 weeks

55 more days. I can do this.

Photos from 31 weeks…the dress is a little tight.

Quite a difference from 16 weeks:

  • Total weight gained: 25 lbs–Hard to believe, I know I look and feel bigger. In fact, I went into Jos.A Bank with Rod to grab a suit and the idiot lady at the counter was like, “Oh when are you due?” When I said, “July.” She instantly got that look of judgement in her eye, and said flatly, “Oh…You must be having twins.” To which, I looked her expressionlessly in the eye and said as if I were spitting nails in her face, “No…I’m not.” (which really meant “shut the Hell up.”) Then I passive aggressively looked the other way while my 2 year old pulled a display table full of shirts to the floor one by one, while simultaneously pooping in his pants. Classy, right? In my 8 months of pregnant state, It was actually very satisfying. I expect those kinds of comments from men who have no idea what it’s like to have their bodies taken over by a fetus, but a middle aged woman wearing a grandma necklace with birthstone charms of her grandchildren? B–ch, please. You should know better.
  • Workouts: haha… Zero.
  • Baby Update: Baby weighs 3.75 lbs and is nearly 17 inches long. Thats a baby! He’s quite the stretcher. My belly ripples like an alien is living in there, but his movements are much different than PML’s. PML was like a hamster in a wheel and he just kicked and wiggled all the time. This one does more stretching with a few occasional punches and kicks.
  • Medicine: Off of Zophran! Now it’s just the gummy multi vitamins.
  • Cravings: All food, but especially ice cream. My appetite is HUGE. I’m finding it’s tough to eat too much at once because I don’t have much room in my belly with this baby getting so big. Instead I just have to eat all the time. I would love it if at the end of all of this I could keep the weight gain at around 35 lbs. We’ll see. Talk is cheap, my actions say that I’ve thrown in the towel.
  • Aversions: None
  • Weird Pregnancy Symptoms: I’m officially uncomfortable pretty much all the time. I get up 2-3 times a night to visit the restroom and when I can sleep, it’s like a drug induced coma.

I’m really starting to get excited to meet Z#2. We still haven’t discussed a name yet…hopefully we’ll figure that one out soon.

I’ve been a little more emotional this week because my dear sweet Grandpa Smoot passed away on Wednesday. I will be heading back to Utah for his funeral this week. I’ve been working on a separate tribute post for a couple of days because he’s quite a guy. I will miss him so much, but I know that my family has another guardian angel.

These are the times when I am especially grateful for my belief that families are forever. I just imagine Gramps teaching little baby Z#2 all kinds of “life prep” classes for the next month or two while the little guy prepares to meet the world.

His obituary was in the Salt Lake Tribune today. Take a look, we’re proud of him. (The only questionable typo was the listing of my mom and step-mom as my dad’s 2 wives. He was married to both of them, but not at the same time…just to clarify).
