Happy Birth-iversary

in My Life

(This post was written yesterday)

November 16th is a big freaking deal around here.  For two reasons.

#1–The Prime Minister officially entered the “terrible two’s” today.  (Even though he’s been showing signs that we might have already been experiencing something of that “terrible” sort mixed in with all the cuteness for a while now).  Turn back the clock two years and I’m sure you can imagine my surprise when I was 7 days over my due date and had to go in to the hospital to be induced on November 15th.  The drugs they gave me didn’t work and so my labor didn’t start until 8-9pm on the 15th and the little buddy arrived at 5:47 am on November 16th–which leads me to…

#2–Four years ago today, we decided we’d take the plunge together and start this whole family business for ourselves.  So yeah, two kind of big events for us. (This is the first year where I think we are really starting to look different from those people in the picture.  Maybe it’s having a 2 year-old.)

I’m grateful for both of these great guys in my life.  And since I’m sure no one wants to see a monthly chronicle of our marriage, I will leave you with some of my favorite PML pics from his two years here on Earth.  I will warn you, it might make you baby hungry…I know I am.

Brand new baby…

Oh boy that haircut really made him grow up.

A few milestones: (which I realize are probably going to sound very braggy…I apologize)

  • He talks in sentences.
  • If he really wants to get my attention, he calls me “Hilary.”
  • He demands that Rod kisses me every time he leaves for work. (or else he cries)
  • He’s very reasonable, as long I explain things to him in detail (and he’s not in a full blown tantrum).
  • He has a puzzle of his name and knows all the letters. (not in order, yet)
  • He yells really loud in public bathrooms so he can hear his echo.  All the strangers lo-oove that.
  • He’s big into “helping.” He helps with the dishes, making eggs in the morning, and putting on his clothes and seat-belt and then usually cheers or high-fives afterwards.
  • He says “thank you” always. (high kick!)  And if he wants something really bad (like fruit snacks or a toy) it’s usually “Please, thank you, you’re welcome” all at once.
  • His friends are really important to him.  He would rather be hanging out with Luke, Noah, Diego, or Colton over almost anything else.
  • He loves samples at Costco (who doesn’t?)
  • Going to football games this fall was his favorite thing to do.  He would always yell “Go DOWNY!” or “B-Y-U” anytime anyone did anything, even though we never went to a BYU game.
  • He sings songs and knows the words to so many it usually surprises me.
  • Loves his tumbling class, Little Einsteins, Leap Frog, trains, trucks, cars, football, dancing, and will usually try to do sun salutations with me anytime I do yoga.  I think I’m on track for a Renaissance man.  I just need to work on his foreign language skills…(jk)…

As for our celebrating…that’s for another post…this one has been a monster.  Thanks for indulging me.

Halloween Fun

November 2, 2011

Yesterday, we welcomed November by eating harvest soup (recipe coming this afternoon) and looking for discounted Halloween decor.  I’m not too gifted in the interior design department and my house is really bare when it comes to cutesy holiday stuff.  I haven’t really cared too much about it until I realized how much my son [...]

Farmers, Firetrucks, and Reality TV Weddings

October 10, 2011

Howdy folks!  Just sitting here watching crazy people get major plastic surgery and plan weddings for people who seem less than likely to make it “until death do us part…” on TV.  Oh those Kardashians.  Nothing like a good KUWTK two hour special to help a gal relax on the Sabbath. Heh. Anyway, just wanted [...]

My Weekend Regret

September 5, 2011

We’ve had a fun-filled weekend so far but there is one moment I wish I would have avoided… Oh the horror.  He not only lost is beautiful locks but he aged from 21 months to 5 years old. There is a story to this:   Originally, Rod and I were planning on REALLY growing his hair [...]

Rites of Passage x2

August 26, 2011

I know that we all talk about how kids come how they are, and that’s true–BUT I can’t help but notice that you can program your kids to do a lot of things (especially at this age). For example, aside from “please” and “thank you,” we’ve trained him to request butterfly kisses after we give [...]

Body Image and Gratitude.

August 25, 2011

The Gods must have been smiling on me last night. I happened to decide to go and get the mail right at the perfect moment to catch a gander at this morphing sky painting. Not only did I have a “please” and “thank you” saying prime minister fast asleep in his crib (he’s learning to [...]

Wildflower Cafe, Exeter + Lovely Friends

August 22, 2011

After enjoying the Modesto birthday extravaganza, we woke up early to load up the handcart and headed back toward Visalia. Landon was sure to point out every excavator, bulldozer, tractor, flag, and “Letter M” (McDonalds) for the whole 2 hour drive along the 99. Of course, I have mixed emotions about this. On the one [...]

Birthday

August 22, 2011

Another year older and wiser for these two. The morning started off with a football scrimmage for Aaron (Rod’s younger brother–and also Rod’s favorite quarterback to watch) so we went to the game. They played three 30 minute games-15 minutes offense and 15 defense so when Aaron wasn’t throwing I went for a run.In my [...]

I saw lots of this: And now, this is starting to dominate as well. I definitely prefer cuddles to tantrums, but I do like his personality emerging with his…well…we’ll call it “independence.” I tried this out: It was pretty meh. As far as vegan cheese goes, it good. But vegan cheese is kind of on [...]
